Key things to know before applying.
Apply Early
Most portals open in March. Some like IIT Roorkee open as early as 10 March. Keep your GATE scorecard, B.Tech marksheets, and category certificate ready in advance.
Cutoffs Vary Year to Year
Historical cutoffs are a guide, not a guarantee. A score of 400+ gives a realistic chance at most IITs in MT. Top institutes (IISc, IIT Bombay, Kanpur) typically require 500+.
Use COAP
COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) lets you manage multiple IIT offers simultaneously. Register on COAP early and link your GATE application number to participate.
Spot Counselling
IIT Bombay and some others conduct spot counselling for remaining seats. Scores marked with * in the table refer to spot counselling cutoffs, which are typically lower than regular rounds.
Stipend & Fellowship
GATE-qualified students admitted to IITs receive a stipend of ₹12,400–₹14,000 per month from MHRD/AICTE. Confirm current rates on your institute’s official portal.
